History of boxing gloves

The history of boxing gloves dates back to three thousand years ago and there have been significant changes in the make up of gloves. Major changes were initiated by the Greek Olympians who made the usage of hardened leather straps so that they could protect their knuckles well. The Greeks shared the information with the Romans and the Romans took the entire sport to a whole new level. However the Romans were the people who added in some extra fittings to the gloves that resulted in the loss of many lives, thus making the game more complex and thereby requiring rules which were strict in nature. Things turned to be so complex that the entire sport had to be banned in 30. B. C. However the sport did not vanish completely, still there was illegal existence of men fighting with bare knuckles.

However in the 17th century there was reemergence of boxing and there was introduction of the boxing gloves in the ring. But still there was a special preference given to fighting with bare knuckles. There was still prevalence of fighters losing their lives inspite of the fact that the sport was declared illegal.

However the sport gained respect with the inclusion of Marquis of Queensbury rules and on the provision of compulsion on the usage of gloves within the ring. In the 19th century there was revival of the sport as a legal procedure and it was free to be progressed. It was after this that there was wider utility of boxing gloves, and as a result there are different types of boxing gloves available in the market. These days you can find the gloves for different categories let it be for youth with the trendy models, male, female, competition and even the non competition styles. This is because boxing is considered as a very good form of exercise, so there are diverse requirements of boxing gloves for the people on competing level and the people not practicing on a professional level. Further boxing gloves are even used these days for the different forms of martial arts like the kickboxing. As far as kickboxing is considered there is much usage of feet however to meet the adequate safety levels gloves are used.

There are different types of gloves designed to cater to some particular purpose, like for example you have the speed bag glove which has an extra padding than the padded leather mittens. Because in some form of games there is wider importance given to the speed and with the speed bag gloves the main aim is to protect the knuckles against the speed of the competitor.

Incase you are using a heavier punching bag then it is essential that you use a heavier bag glove, in this case the speed doesn't matter much but the force matters so in this case the heavier bag glove intends to provide more protection to the hands and the wrist of the boxer. These gloves have extra foam padding and they are covered with leather so as to increase their durability. It is important to remember that the athletes use the right types of gloves for the right purpose.

Enhance your children's fitness through fitness programs

When you research the Internet for children's fitness programs, you will come across several innovative and exciting programs to increase children's fitness levels. There also physical education programs specially tailored for children.

Preschool exercise programs are much needed, but too often, they get put on the back burner in daycare centers and other preschool organizations. Some may feel it's not that important that preschoolers exercise on a regular basis, but this could not be farther from the truth. Fitness is very important for preschoolers and it helps them establish good habits that can last a lifetime.

Many older children participate in some sort of P.E. (physical education) class at school, but many preschoolers do not. P.E. training is necessary for at least about an hour a day even for kids who are yet to join school. For a preschool P.E. program, age-appropriate exercises and other fun-based activities should be organized.

Some of the preschool fitness activities should include aerobic exercises, fun dances, gymnastics, and age-appropriate sports. You can also incorporate nutrition information and provide take-home items such hand-outs, newsletters for parents, take-home coloring sheets and other items to enhance the preschool fitness programs.

Children's fitness programs offer many benefits not only for children but also to parents and teachers. The children in the program learn the importance of exercise in an entertaining way and they learn how to warm up and stretch their muscles for more flexibility. Children exercise promotes cardiovascular health at a young age and helps children develop good exercise and eating habits that will stay with them throughout their lifetime.

Children's fitness programs can reach into the children's homes to help parents combat childhood obesity at home. Teachers involved in the program may see an improvement in the energy levels of children, which can lead to a better teaching and learning environment. Search for a children's fitness program that offers a variety of exercise techniques and materials so the kids will not become too bored or too tired with the program. Children have a short attention span so the more new techniques you can offer, the more exciting and effective it will be.

In recent years, there have been a significant number of diet pills claiming the scientific way to lose weight, increase memory, and gain muscle power. Unfortunately, it would seem that this kind of information has been passed on to children, and that they are finding less motivation to exercise. Parents, not convinced that an exercise program for children is a priority, must read the report of The American Obesity Association that states the single largest factor in childhood obesity is lack of physical activity and excessive sedentary behavior - watching too much TV and playing too many video games.

An exercise program for your children is so important because of the large amount of health problems associated with those are inactive. Since 1974, the number of children classified as obese and slothful has increased more than four times; from roughly 4 per cent to over 16 per cent. To help your child avoid these health risks, you need to set them up on a regular exercise program. Children's exercise programs are not hard to do - just encourage them to attend children's fitness programs. Along with the fitness programs, please ensure children get a good balanced diet, develop healthy relationships and stay active.

Easy Ways to Improve Punching Power

Fighting is one of the tough sports in this world. Fighters should be mentally conditioned and physically strong to endure the entire bout. To succeed, it is essential that the fighter should be conversant with all the punching techniques. There are a variety of ways to throw punch, such as - jabs, hooks, crosses etc.

One of the best known methods to improve the punching power is to hold dumbbells in each hand and practice throwing punches in the air. This is a proven method to increase the speed and punching power. It is said that Bruce Lee used 10 lb. dumbbells in order to improve his speed and punching power. The beginners and relatively inexperienced boxers can use 5 Lbs dumbbells for practice. Yet another effective way to improve your punching power is hitting heavy bags.

A Jab is a short but rapid forehand fist punch mainly used from guarding position. It is the most commonly used hand attack and to be forceful, you have to use your passive hand or non dominant hand. In other words, if you are right handed, you jab with your left hand and vice-versa. This is a quick punch deployed to maintain your distance from your opponent. This is a quick punch deployed to maintain your distance from your opponent. Jab can be a good strategy as from your defensive position, you jab your opponent and go directly back to your defensive position. Please note if you do not bring your arm back to defensive position in time, your opponent can hit you on your side. Jabs are also used as a first punch in combinations.

Again, straight and Cross punches are performed by your dominant hand. It starts with your hand in defensive position. You then extend your dominant arm and twist your torso and right leg, keeping the whole dominant part of your body in one straight line. Your head should still be blocked by your other hand (in defensive position) keeping your abdominal section tight. When executing the punch, most of the power comes from the twisting of the torso and from the hips, as well as the legs.

The Hook is a deceptive but very powerful punch that can be performed with either hand and from almost any position. Please bear in mind that when you execute hook, you do not stick your elbows up and out. Keep it aligned, and perform this using the twisting of the torso/hip and slight movement in the feet/legs. Be careful not to twist your feet too much when performing a hook lest you may lose your balance.

The Uppercut is another powerful punch that can be performed with either hand and is targeted under the opponent's chin. This type of punch can be thrown with either hand. These can be delivered to the chin/jaw or anywhere in that area, but it is most powerful when delivered to the chin and jaw. Please remember that if the angle of your punch is too high then you might miss your opponent. If the angle of your punch is too low, this could result in the injury of your wrist.

The most brutal punches, that are seldom mentioned, are roundhouse punches. This is used at close range for finishing blow. There are still a few past masters who will insist that you should be proficient in the drills before you spar. If you have mastered the basic drills, they claim, you will be ready to spar with agility.

The Right Way to Train for Boxing

Fighting is one of the most difficult in this world. Being a boxer is no way the great thing but being a good boxer is an achievement. So to become a good boxer, proper training is always a must. Training helps the boxer to learn about various punching techniques and helps to increase the punching power.

The main objective of boxer is to maximize power and explosiveness, and also maintaining his ideal fighting weight. Boxer must be prepared to fight with intensity, round after round. A boxer must train in a sport specific manner if he wishes to be successful inside the ring. Most of the great boxers run 4 to 5 miles everyday. This running session help the boxer to prepare himself to meet the physical fitness inside the ring. The fighter must pattern his training after the physical demand of sport.

Boxer should not waste his valuable time in long slow distance running. The best way to condition the body for boxing is through interval running. The most common intervals for boxers are for distance 200, 400, 600, and 800 meters. Amateur boxers fight 2-mins rounds. The 600 meter interval will closely meet this demand. Professional fighters fight for 3-mins rounds. So the 800-meter interval is perfect for these boxers.

Let's see how the sample interval routine could be:

1-mile warm-up

6*600 meters - 1 minute rest period between each interval

800 meter cool down - light jog

It is important to run the interval at an intense pace. This interval training will help to bring down your heart beating rate to anaerobic levels and will improve the recovery time between interval and running times.

A boxer must maintain his strength and explosiveness for all rounds. A weekly running should consist of intervals, sprints, and an occasional aerobic run. This will be the proper way to increase the strength and power of the boxer.

The actual boxing workout consists of two primary forms of training- skill training and conditioning. As boxing is a skillful game, the most skillful fighter will face difficulty with the opponent who has superior endurance and power. The fighter can develop his skill and physical condition at gym by workout. The training also consist of skill enhancement session that include shadow boxing, bag, punch mitt work with the trainer, sparring and defensive drills.

Boxing is not a sport that can be learned overnight. It is a ballistic sport, and the only way to prepare for this sport is by proper training. To be successful in this sport you must train with intensity. To be best, you must train the best.

Boxing Gloves Design

The prime design concern involves the glove's padding. In sequence for a padding material to be effectual, it ought to soak up energy by condensing. The more it condenses the more energy it soaks up. If a material condenses too much, it finishes being useful since it becomes just a thin layer of opaque material. Partially as of this, unlike weight classes need gloves of different weights. A glove's weight is changed by adding or eliminating the layers of padding. If the same glove weight was requisite for all weight classes, blows thrown by the biggest and heaviest boxers would condense the padding further than its useful range, while blows thrown by the lightest boxers would hardly compress the material at all. In addition, many materials that offer outstanding energy assimilation also display a feature known as memory. Once condensed, these materials uphold their deformed state for an extended era of time so that the primary blow with a glove gives typical protection, but ensuing blows are almost unpadded.

Other design norm stem from set of laws and regulations of the various sanctioning bodies. For instance, USA Boxing, which controls much of the proletarian competition in the United States and sanctions all Olympic-style competition in the United States, needs that all gloves moreover be thumb less or have the thumb compartment attach to the body of the glove so that boxers can't prod each other in the eye. Further, gloves used for international competition, such as the Olympics, ought to have a part of the leather covering the knuckle region dyed white for scoring purposes.
